The Park Custodian is responsible for custodial needs of City Hall, Police Department, and several City operated recreation facilities.  This position is responsible for the proper use of equipment, materials and performs a variety of cleaning and sanitation tasks within the assigned areas of responsibility.  Work is performed in accordance with prescribed policies/procedures and employee must be able to work independently the majority of the time.  This position is also a regular point of public contact for building and facility reservation tours.  

The minimum for this position with no experience is $14.20
There are 2 levels of Custodian positions.  What level you qualify for will be based on your prior experience.  Pay is then determined by what level you are qualified for.  Experience credit is also given for honorable military service.


Essential Functions of Work

  • Performs daily custodial tasks including dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and cleaning glass.
  • Coordinates cleaning schedule to avoid interference with operations.
  • Collects and processes recyclables.
  • Sets up and takes down chairs, tables, and other furnishings for meetings and conferences.
  • Acts as a regular point of public contact for city rental facilities.
  • Assists in the preparation of city facilities for private rentals and public events.
  • Other related duties as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • General knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and materials to use on specific furnishings and surfaces.
  • Ability to use equipment, tools and chemical properly and safely including, but not limited to, floor polishing/buffing machines, sweepers, and other mechanized equipment.
  • The ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • 6 months of related work experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving history that meets the requirements to be covered by the City’s insurance.
Physical Requirements
  • The majority of the work involves physical labor and exertion to manually move, lift, carry, or push heavy objects or equipment possibly weighing 80 lbs. or more.  Regularly bending, stooping, and/or shoveling as required; trimming trees, accessing light fixtures at heights, etc.  Regular and proper use of PPE is required.

Vacation Leave — 
Available after the end of the training period. Vacation accrues each pay period (every 2 weeks) and the accrual rate is based on years of service.
Sick Leave  - Accrue 8 hours of sick leave per month, no wait period.
Holidays - The City provides 11 paid holidays.
Medical and Dental Insurance – The City covers at least 85% of the premiums of all plans.  Available 1st of the month following the date of hire.
Retirement – After the training period, The City will contribute 7% of gross compensation into a 401a plan and will match up to 3% of employee contribution for a total of 10%.
